Abstract

Four specific techniques that can be used to answer the evaluation questions are discussed. Semantic rating scales can be used to learn how people feel about specific aspects of the physical environment; observation and behavioral mapping is a way to look at what people do in the designed environment; the activity log is the way to view a person's behavior over a period of time to compare the actual use with the intended use of spaces; social mapping to explore and identify relationships between people in designed environments.
