Abstract

A review discusses the use of natural products from plants and animals, such as pheromones, attractants and repellents, against pests and insect disease vectors. The natural chem. defenses in plants are inducible and these chem. counter-adaptations occur in response to damage by herbivores and pathogens. Insect feeding damage and salivary components can induce the synthesis and release of volatiles from plants that attract parasitoids to infect their herbivores. [on SciFinder(R)]
