Abstract

Focuses on the failure of the United States to emerge as a leader in the digital economy. Tradition of the United States being a forerunner in the invention of new technologies; Lack of proficiency in the development of communications technology and broadband internet service; Economic costs; Blame placed on Congress and federal regulators; Suggestion that the Federal Communications Commission should deregulate and lift price controls.
