APPROXIMATE TORSIONAL ANALYSIS OF CURVED BOX GIRDERS BY THE M/R- METHOD

Abstract

Simplified method is presneted for the approximate solution of torsional moments and angles of twist in curved box girders of single or multiple spans. The box girders are assumed to be adequately stiffened by internal transverse diaphragms so that both warping and distortion stresses may be considered as negligible. The proposed method adopts an approach which is similar to the classical conjugate beam method for the determination of beam deflections made of A325 and A490 steel. The results are compared with those obtained in exact solutions based on the transfer matrix method.
