Abstract

There is a variety of mineral deposits in the area including stratiform Cu deposits in sandstones and shales. There are six major Cu provinces which occur in Proterozoic and Palaeozoic sediments, some containing carbonate and some volcanic material. The Cu-bearing sediments are found around the border of the platform, with younger sediments towards the centre. The deposits were formed during sedimentation and diagenesis. The origin of the Cu is believed to be in the uplifted blocks which supplied the sediment, and in volcanic effusions.-R.E.S.
