Abstract

This paper defines expert systems and discusses their relationship with artificial intelligence and decision support systems. Included in this paper is a detailed description of the steps to follow in expert system de-velopment. The advantages and problems associated with the use of expert systems are delineated, followed by a description of a multitude of current marketing applications of expert systems. The paper concludes by examining the future direction of expert system development.
