Within the framework of lexical availability, this study was carried out on the basis of the classic associative test with standardized parameters taken from the methodology established by the Panhispanic Project of Lexical Availability. Our main goal is to evaluate, under both quantitative and qualitative approaches, the influence of "sex" variable in lexical availability within a sample of 100 male and female students doing 12th grade at several Pinar del Rio high schools. A finding of the study was the degree of influence of cultural elements in students' lexical availability, among which the authors point out the significant effect of gender stereotypes over students' perceptions and attitudes expressed through language.
