Abstract

Although business intelligence (131) solutions have been a long-standingtopic of major interest in private sector, public administrations (PA),however, took only first steps towards strategic management. While PAare obliged to implement new public management (NPM) approaches, such asnew accounting systems or an output-oriented management, to collectmanagement-relevant data, there is little support regarding how toemploy these new structures in terms of BI. Here, balanced scorecards(BSC) can provide a valuable conceptual basis. This chapter presents adesign science-oriented case study oil BI design and organisationalimplementation in a medium-sized local PA facing core problems of suchan approach. A case study analysis identifies generalisable issues.
