Abstract

The paper describes a technique for image segmentation based on binary thresholding and the hardware implementation of the segmentation circuit. The technique applies a fuzzy logic strategy to calculate the threshold. The hardware design methodology is based on a high level behavioral description of the fuzzy system. The knowledge base is described using the standard hardware description language VHDL. The hardware design criterion is the low cost and, in special way, a high processing speed. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
