Abstract

With the advent of semiconductor technology, the usage of nonlinear loads in the power system has increased tremendously thereby creating different power quality issues. Shunt active power filters are used to eliminate current harmonics and also for reactive power compensation, which are major power quality issues. In this paper, simulation study of fuzzy logic for shunt active filter is presented. Synchronous reference frame theory is used for current control and fuzzy logic is used for DC link voltage control. The output from current control and voltage control is used for generating switching pulses for shunt active filter using a hysteresis controller. The proposed scheme is simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Results are compared with a conventional control scheme based on PI controller.
