Abstract

Healthcare Information system (HIS) building is an important way to improve hospital efficiency and health care quality. This article describes the process of HIS development in general hospitals in china as the Peking University Third Hospital (PUTH) for example. By expanding wirelesses AP and digital system in PUTH, the hospital has made great achievements in the building of electronic medical record system, public reservation registration platform, personal digital assistant, treatment before settlement and the DRGs. According to the previous experiences, it also gives some suggestions for further HIS development in general hospitals. The suggestions include reasonable planning, efficiency and effectiveness, data processing, information standardization, staff participation and updating information system. © Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 2014.
