Phase I: Abbreviated surgery general

Abstract

The damage control concept is most often applied to injuries of the abdomen and chest. The goals of this Phase I are rapid control of hemorrhage, followed by control of contamination and removal of frankly necrotic tissue if necessary. As stated clearly in previous chapters, the extent of the procedure is limited by time and the patient's ongoing physiological status. Many traditional surgical techniques are significantly modified during damage control, especially within the abdominal cavity. © 2010 Springer-Verlag New York.
