Abstract

In summary, with respect to the proposed social contract: we are strongly in favour of increased public consultation. To be effective, the process must be 'customer friendly,' and therefore, we see the need for the local community panel to deal with all of the health care needs of that community. The hospital situated in that local community should take the lead role, on behalf of the total health care system, to ensure that the community's total health care needs are addressed. The District Health Council should play the key role of facilitator of the process, promoting collaboration between health care providers situated both within and outside of that local community.
