Abstract

Osteoporosis is the most common bone disorder in adults. The associated fractures carry a significant risk of disability, decreased quality of life, and mortality. This teaching script provides a framework for pharmacologic and lifestyle interventions that can effectively treat osteoporosis and reduce fracture risk. We highlight the controversy surrounding recommendations for duration of therapy as well as monitoring.
