Transboundary Water Management

Abstract

Water management challenges increase greatly when a resource is shared between different political entities. Intra-national conflicts, such as between states, can be resolved using existing national courts or legislative or political institutions, although not necessarily to the satisfaction of all parties involved. The difficulty of resolving conflicts over water is compounded when sovereign states are involved and the appropriation of water resources is considered vital to multiple national interests.
