Abstract

Shoulder region injection procedures collectively are one of the most frequently performed musculoskeletal injection procedures. A survey of primary care physicians determined that these represented the most common type of office-based injection procedure [1]. A study from an outpatient physiatric musculoskeletal practice found that the most commonly performed shoulder region injection procedure, injections into the subacromial space (n = 114; subacromial space = 90), represented 21% of the total injection procedures exclusive of trigger point injections performed during a 2-year time period [2]. Shoulder region injection procedures include those into joints, bursae, tendon sheaths, and tendon insertion sites as summarized in Table 6.1 and shown in Figs. 6.1 and 6.2. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
