Abstract

Elbow dislocations are complex injuries and present with various patterns of ligamentous and soft tissue injuries. The clinical examination as well as fluoroscopy, ultrasound and MRI help to analyze the pathologies in detail and help in the decision making between nonoperative and operative treatment. Therefore, a detailed understanding of joint anatomy, biomechanics and pathomechanics is mandatory. The aim of treatment is to achieve unrestricted, stable and pain-free range of motion. Depending on the severity of the soft tissue damage, this can be achieved by nonsurgical and surgical treatment. With proper therapy, good functional results can be expected.
