Abstract

In recent years, there has been an increasing amount of projects on underground public transport due to environmental and efficiency reasons. One of these project has been carried out by ASELSAN to refurbish metro vehicle of Ankara. A traction control algorithm is required to manage the electric traction motor of the vehicle to use maximum adhesive effort and to improve traction and braking performance. In order to design such a traction control algorithm, an accurate system plant is essential. The objective of this paper is to present a railway vehicle (metro) model that is developed in Simpack-Rail which is used as a plant for development of the traction control algorithms. First, the representation of the vehicle and its model is shown. Next, the model tuning according to data collected from real vehicle is presented. At the end, comparison of the vehicle model with the real vehicle by conducting dynamics tests is explained. This plant model can also be used in order to run simulations of the vehicle against derailment scenarios according to EN14363 running safety standard of railway vehicles.
