Abstract

Apte and Sheth believe that sustainability can provide an edge to companies, if it is approached in the right way, and becomes a systematic, holistic, and crucial part of the organization. They outline a model of various impacts on a broad range of stakeholders, rather than the narrower lens of only shareholders. These stakeholders are, in their words, consumers, customers, employees, media, governments, nongovernmental organizations, communities, investors, and suppliers. Apte and Sheth conclude that “businesses that embrace sustainability as fundamental to their mission realize the most productive and long‐lasting sustainability platforms‐platforms that are at once financially, environmentally, and socially successful.”
