The surgery was performed on 23 patients in whom gallbladder polyps were detected twice in the course of ultrasound scan. Only in 12 of the patients the presence of polyps was confirmed after cholecystectomy, which is only 48% of those treated and proves that USG is not accurate enough. These were cholesterolic or inflammatory polyps. Those were not malignant in any of the cases. The patients with polyps constituted 0.72% of those who underwent cholecystectomy as the result of nonneoplastic diseases of the gallbladder. According to the authors the patients with gallbladder polyps in the vast majority of cases are suitable for laparoscopic operation.
