Abstract
Due to the influence of the Andes, which vastly modified climate and parental materials, a relatively small country like Ecuador has a wide variety of soil orders, hard to find in other countries of the world at this scale. In spite of its great diversity and importance, soil is perhaps the least known natural resource in Ecuador.
