Gender violence in Spain is a subject that raises great social concern. Also, the implementation of psychological intervention programs for male batterers has drawn public attention. This study assessed the personality of 38 paroled men convicted for intimate partner violence. Structured psychological interviews and standard personality tests were used. Pre and post treatment cognitive distortions about women were also assessed. All participants received a specific cognitive-behavioral treatment program. Results indicated that 65% of participants reduced their cognitive distortions about women. Data are concurrent with other studies and allow us to be moderately optimistic about effectiveness of this kind of special psychological treatment programs for male batterers. © 2013 Colegio Oficial de Psicólogos de Madrid.
