Abstract

Conventional smart cards according to ISO 7816 exhibit only limited connectivity with IT equipment, as special drivers and special software arc required to bridge the gap. The Internet Smart Card otters a new approach to overcome this gap. By providing a communication stack which is directly compatible with popular interfaces, such as USB and TCP/IP, and by introducing an innovative Card Token form factor the Internet Smart Card enables easy-to-use smart card applications. Examples arc presented where the Internet Smart Card provides authentication solutions for the internet without the need for complicated installation of driver software and without the need for additional hardware. © 2009 Vieweg+Teubner | GWV Fachverlage GmbH, Wiesbaden.
