Abstract

During the different stages of the development process, it is necessary to introduce elements of evaluation to ensure that at the end of the process we will obtain a product covering the users’ needs on a wide range of aspects such as functionality, accessibility or usability of the system as well as perception or willingness to purchase the product. Three main stages of development were considered: contextualization, con- ceptualization and optimization. For each of these stages, this chapter details the validation techniques employed and the main results obtained. This includes, among others, the assessment of different concepts and mock-ups, as well as the validation of different prototypes under controlled conditions as well as in a real- use environment. Each evaluation contributed new input to ensure that, at the end of the innovation process, there would be more than just a suitable device for elderly people.
