Abstract

We report compression of single-electron pulses using microwave fields to 28-fs duration (FWHM), characterized by laser streaking. Atomic resolution is achieved in diffraction. A time-resolved study on fibrous graphite polycrystals without the compressor reveals the practical feasibility of pump-probe diffraction with single electrons.
