Abstract

Specification of storage systems by means of user-oriented Quality-of-Serviceattributes is the key to ease of use and efficient resource utilization.Attribute-managed storage systems hide details of the underlyingstorage systems through virtual store abstractions--- units of storagewith quality of service guarantees. The mapping of virtual storesonto physical storage devices can be optimized to achieve high levelgoals such as bilincing system performance against total system cost.Wo demonstrate the feasability of this approach with a prototypematching engine called Forum.
