Abstract

The liver is one of the most frequently injured organs of the abdominal cavity following trauma. Mechanisms of hepatic traumas vary between countries. Blunt injuries caused by direct shock or traffic accidents account for the majority in Europe. Penetrating injuries (gunshots or stab wounds) are more frequent in some countries such as North America or South Africa, where they may reach 21%.
