Abstract

The productivity of maize and sweet potato as the main food crops for Indonesia can be increased by intercropping system. The objective of the experimentwas to investigate the best maize genotype fit for intercropping with sweet potatoes. The experiment was conducted fromFebruari 2017 until Juli 2017 in Arjasari (960 m above sea level). The experiment was arranged in asplit plot design (SPD) with cropping system as main plot and genotypes as sub-plot. The main plot was maize sole cropping and maize/ sweet potatoes intercropping; whereas the sub-plot was 17 maize genotype. The result indicated that the growth of maize was affected by sweet potatoes under maize/ sweet potatoes intercropping. Maize genotypes of DR 8, DR 13, DR 16 and DR 17were suitable for intercropped with sweet potato as showed by the dry seed grain weight each plot ranging from3,50 kg/m 2-5,01 kg/m 2 or equal to 3,89 ton/ha-4,25 ton/ha.The highest Land equivalent Ratio (LER) is maize genotype of DR 15, which is 1,43, so compatible intercropped with sweet potato.
