Abstract

Aquaculture is the fastest growing sector globally and the demand of food fishes is also increasing day by day. Nutritional biotechnology has great role in aquaculture production enhancement. Selection of proper feed ingredients, advanced technologies for feed formulation and preparation, feed processing and feeding techniques, anti-nutritional factors, their detoxification are very essential aspects of fish feed. Carbohydrate utilization as protein sparing effect in fish nutrition, nutraceuticals in fish nutrition, suitable feed attractants, fish biochemical and physiological responses in extreme environmental stresses are some of the priority areas of research in fish nutritional biotechnology. Further, probiotics, prebiotics and immunostimulants are very much useful in preventing disease outbreak and growth. This chapter deals with various developments in nutritional biotechnology for enhancing aquaculture production.
