Abstract

Outlines the nature and some key elements of the amphibian, reptile, bird and mammal faunas of this central and southern Papua New Guinea catchment area, indicating a high diversity in all groups and noting a degree of endemism unusually high given the relatively recent geological origin of the island. Altitudinal zonation is apparent for many species. -P.J.Jarvis
