Studies show that variation in the micro vascular blood flow affects local skin temperature and hence skin temperature variation can be used in the diagnosis of micro-circulatory failure. This paper proposes that the average difference in temperature between two symmetric leg spots could be used to determine the degree of infection. For experimental verification, a non-contact Infrared temperature measurement system was developed and tested on diabetic patients. The results confirm that the average temperature difference could be used for predicting the onset of diabetic foot ulcer. © 2008 Springer-Verlag.
