One way to realize a higher throughput in weathering consists in applying more sensitive means of detection. Within the group of luminescence techniques, which are generally characterized by high sensitivity, chemiluminescence (CL) is investigated as a possible candidate. Its usefulness in evaluating weathering effects and the limitations in correlating the effects of weathering tests at early stages to those at later stages commonly used for established macroscopic detection will be discussed. Also, principles in the correlation between shortening weathering tests and field exposure are highlighted. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2009.
