Abstract

The manifestation of uveitis in infancy is quite different from uveitis in adulthood. Various studies have shown that rheumatic diseases in childhood are frequently associated with uveitis. The frequency varies between 5 and 82 %. Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is the most common uveitis-associated systemic disorder in childhood in Europe and North America and has a poor visual prognosis compared to other uveitis entities. It often takes a very severe course, and up to one-third of children suffer from visual impairment.
