Abstract

Infants and children can experience a variety of pain. Children often receive inadequate treatment for pain. Over the past few decades, there has been significant progress in pediatric pain management. In order to provide optimal care for children, understanding the developmental, physiological, and psychological factors relevant to pain is essential. In this chapter, we present the current concepts of acute pediatric pain management, pediatric regional anesthesia, and approaches for chronic pediatric pain. Behavioral medical therapies and complementary medical therapies play a major role in easing pediatric pain.
