Reviews the environmental and spiritual controversy over land in Mount Graham, Arizona, a site which has sacred values for Apache Indians, contains habitat for the endangered red squirrel, and is regarded as an ideal location for giant telescopes by the University of Arizona. The author argues that from the Indians' viewpoint totally new national land-use planning concepts are required to protect sacred areas throughout the US. -P.Hardiman
