Abstract

This chapter focuses on dengue prevention in Cuba. It presents the results of a health promotion project conducted from 2003-06 in the municipality of Cotorro in southeastern Havana. The project was designed to develop an intersectoral, continuous and participatory integrated dengue surveillance system at the local level using an ecosystem approach to human health. A situational analysis of the vector control (Aedes aegypti) is presented. The success and challenges of the project are mentioned. The importance of integration and community participation are highlighted.
