Abstract

This article presents the link between the results of two studies carried out within a line of investigation which started in 2002. The first one is entitled " Approximation to the Construction of Identities of Deaf People" , and it contributes with new knowledge about external and internal mechanisms which have had an effect in the identity construction of deaf people, characterizing the school as a relevant social space in which the role of the teacher is fundamental. Its results create the need for a second investigation: 'A Study on the Representations Created by teachers of Deaf People in Schools of the Metropolitan Region', through which a typology for an understanding of the current situation in this field is postulated.
