Conclusion: Challenging the Narrative

Abstract

The contributions to this volume explore the boundaries of bioarchaeology, challenging narratives that have influenced our discipline – the role and position of women in the past, how we communicate our results, our engagement with political/social issues, the nature of the relationship between researcher and research subject/object, and the structural inequality in the discipline itself. In their contributions, the authors provide examples of new ways of investigating and discussing the past grounded in a critical and self-reflective perspective.
