Abstract

The management of the cosmetic surgery patient can be challenging. This chapter reviews the eight key psychological and contextual features to consider in the evaluation of the cosmetic patient:1. Manage the balance of power. 2. Listen to the patient. 3. Ensure appropriate patient motivation. 4. Determine realistic surgical goals. 5. Screen out the difficult patient. 6. Conduct thorough informed consent. 7. Avoid surgical overcorrection. 8. Create an aesthetic environment.
