Abstract

This article describes a lightweight fabric which protects the wearer from 9mm or 0.357 magnum projectiles which has been developed by Safariland Ltd. The structure is a number of layers of woven fabrics made from filament yarns of 180-420 denier. The fabrics are then quilted together. In the version described the fabric had a weave of 17.7 by 17.7 ends/picks/cm, 40 layers of fabric were quilted together and the final product had a surface density of around 0.060kg/cm squared.
