Abstract

• Bulk solids: many particles or granules of different sizes • Often randomly grouped together to form a bulk • May have different densities • May have different chemical compositions • 'Nature" (appearance, feel, behavior) depends on many factors-Size, shape, density etc. of constituent particles • Nature of bulk sold is needed for designing or selecting equipment for handling or storage • Need to characterize bulk solids and behavior (normal bulk form and of constituent particles) • More of an art than science
