Abstract

Japan is one of the most advanced countries in terms of manufacturing technologies, and the role of lasers has become increasingly important since the beginning of 21st century [1]. The Japanese laser market is expanding steadily and competing with existing manufacturing technologies. In this article, recent market trends of laser processing systems using CO 2 lasers, solid state lasers and excimer lasers in Japanese market are outlined. Hot topics of successful laser‐based manufacturing technologies for largescale production are also introduced.
