Abstract

Our data support the contention that the hemodynamic sequelae of this type of anaphylactic reaction results from profound peripheral vasodilation. When preload and afterload to the left ventricle are reduced greatly during an anaphylactic reaction, myocardial pump function appears to be enhanced.
