The article presents advisory statements relating to the optimal age for acquiring swimming and aquatic skills, which have been approved by the American Red Cross Advisory Council on First Aid, Aquatics, Safety, and Prevention (ACFASP). It emphasized that the acquisition of swimming lessons is an inadequate means for preventing drowning among children younger than 4-5 years old. A recommendation for aquatic agencies to restrict children under 5 years old from swimming lessons is also mentioned.
