In this paper, two soil constitutive models namely Mohr-Coulomb (MC) and Soft Soil (SS) models were used to simulate the behaviour of a deep excavation whose retaining wall and the base were improved by cement deep mixing (CDM) columns. In addition, properties of the structures improved by CDM columns were modelled in four different levels of detailing based on the equivalent method. The computed lateral displacements of the top of the retaining wall were compared with the monitored values. The numerical results revealed that MC model is competent at accurately predicting the displacement of retaining walls with monitored than that of SS model. Last but not least, the details in modelling based on the equivalent method was less effects on the results with the different under 10% even the time spent for each of them was quite different.
