Abstract

Presents the 3rd and final part of the author's Galen's System of Physiolgy and Medicine , the 1st part of which was published in 1968, the 2nd part, dealing with Galen's views on sense perception, in 1970. The present volume covers the nervous system, with emphasis on its integrative action on the principal functions of the body. Of particular interest is the account of Galen's ideas and observations on what are now called 'reflexes' and 'instincts;' the definition and activities of the 'soul,' including dreams, illusions and hallucinations; the temperaments; mental diseases; and psychotherapeutic concepts.
