Abstract

The article shows practical measures of protection techniques in design of a communication system. It refers to EN 50159:2010 European standard, which includes guidelines for definition of categories and risks in telecommunication network and defences used to protect the system against hazards. The design process requires not only choice of proper defences, but also an analysis and proof that the design assumptions are correct. The choice of proper defences is tightly related to the used communication protocol. The article presents also an approach to “safety code” as a defence against failure and false data of telegrams. The proper “safety code” has a key impact on calculation of HR (Hazardous failure Rate). The article presents practical measures used in design of the UniAC2 axle counter system.
