Martin Willis argues that the work collected together in this collection offers new ways of conceiving of scientific performance. While science in action has been extensively studied, there remain other kinds of questions that have still to be answered. In particular the study of scientific performances from a range of perspectives will illuminate the relationships between the sciences and imagination, as well as between the aesthetic and the epistemic. Focusing on scientific performance across a range of humanities disciplines—literary studies, media studies, drama, and history—additionally reveals the strength of interdisciplinary methodologies within the humanities rather than between the humanities and the sciences. This collection may, then, be regarded as an effort to showcase a new science humanities.
