Abstract

A continuously operating spouted bed can reach a steady state bed composition in different ways according to the discharging pipe positions. By operating with a pipe submerged with respect to the free bed surface, the concentration of coarse particles in the discharging stream was found to be initially higher than in the feed. This value decreased within a short time to reach the feed concentration. However, the proportion of coarse particles in the bed always remained lower than in the solids leaving the bed. (A)
