Milkfish (Chanos chanos) is an important economic fish that is cultured in brackish water ponds. Milkfish is relatively resistant to diseases that may be caused by associated gut bacteria to improve health and prevent from disease. In the gut of milkfish was screened to obtain potential probiotic bacteria to be developed as probiotic. Some morphological observation such as shape and color of cell and biochemical test such as starch, casein hidrolysis were conducted. Antagonistic test of the potential bacteria isolate was done to Aeromonas hydrophila. This study was conducted from June to September 2017 in Balai Karantina Ikan dan Pengendalian Mutu dan Keamanan Hasil Perikanan Kelas I Medan I Kuala Namu. The result indicated that potential probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract of milkfish were Staphylococcus spp. (UIM01), Micrococcus sadentarius (UIM02), Lactobacillus acidophillus (LIM01) and Micrococcus lylae (LIM02). These bacteria showed to inhibit Aeromonas hydrophila is growth to low extend.
